School Safety Information

Dear Parents/Guardians,
The purpose of this letter is to update you on what Breitung Township Schools has been doing to keep your students safe while at school. In coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies across Dickinson County and the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Breitung Township Schools conducted two reunification drills during the all-staff Professional Development day, Friday, October 10. No students were present during these drills. A reunification would take place if a crisis occurred requiring the removal of staff and students from a school building. The reunification process is a very slow and methodical process that would take hours to complete. To quote a law enforcement official, “It's an emergency going into an emergency, but it's not an emergency coming out of an emergency.”
In the event of an emergency that requires the use of the reunification process, communication would be sent out to parents and guardians via our district communication platform, ParentSquare. I am requesting your support and cooperation to make this a smooth and efficient process. Please understand that law enforcement presence would be extremely high, and there will be no access granted to school grounds, and access at the reunification area will be restricted. I have included an informational sheet detailing what this process will look like. Upon arrival at the reunification site, a BTS or DIDHD staff member will provide you with a reunification information form. You must complete this form and submit it to a staff member when you pick up your student. You can expect this process to take quite some time, as students will be reunified with their parents/guardians one at a time. As a parent myself, I understand that emotions would be high, as my children are the most valuable thing in my life. Maintaining a calm and cool presence will ensure that this process will be carried out as safely and smoothly as possible. While this is not a fun topic to talk about, and the likelihood of a reunification process is quite slim, it is important that you are aware of what this process entails.
If you have any questions on this matter, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Again, thanks for your continued support of Breitung Township Schools.
